Including Åland. Not significant: 2020 for Area (cultivation/harvested/production), A.5 Grain maize and corn-cob-mix, A.6 Triticale. For 2016 definition differs for A. Cereals to produce grain (including seed). Comment in national metadata: Other cereals n.e.c. includes triticale, buckwheat, maize, quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa), millet and other cereal n.e.c.. For 2016 definition differs for E. Plants harvested green from arable land. Comment in national metadata: Other cereals harvested green includes wheat, barley, oats and mixed cereals harvested as greenfodder (whole crop or grain) and whole crop cereals for silage.

Åland

Data from Åland is also included in the data from Finland.

Iceland

Not significant: 2021 for Area (cultivation/harvested/production), A.1 Wheat and spelt, A.4.1 Oats, A.6 Triticale. Estimated: 2021 for Area (cultivation/harvested/production), A Cereals to produce grain (including seed), A.3 Barley.

Sweden

Comment in national metadata: Temporary Leguminous plants harvested green are not collected separately but together with Temporary grasses. Comment in national metadata: Annual Leguminous crops harvested green are insignificant and are submitted together with Other plants harvested green from arable land n.e.c..

EU

European Union - 27 countries (from 2020). For 2011 and 2012, Main area, definition differs for B. Dry pulses and protein crops to produce grain (including seed and mixtures of cereals and pulses) in Ireland and thus also for the EU.

area

Main area

The concept of 'main area' corresponds, in general, to the area of the land parcel. The crop/occupation linked to that area is the unique or main crop having occupied the parcel during the crop year. In the case of annual crops, the main area should correspond to the sown area. For permanent crops it refers to the total planted area (including non-productive plants). In the case of successive crops (mostly vegetables) it refers to the main crop that occupied the parcel during that year. These special cases are described in detail in the Annual Crop Statistics Handbook found at Eurostat.

Main area

Measure: Sums of main areas of land parcels cultivated with crops.

Area (cultivation/harvested/production)

For cereals, dry pulses, root crops, industrial crops and plants harvested green the areas refer to the area under cultivation. Area under cultivation means the area that corresponds to the total sown area, but after the harvest it excludes ruined areas (e.g. due to natural disasters). If the same land parcel is used twice in the same year, the area of this parcel can be counted twice.

Area (cultivation/harvested/production)

For vegetables the area refers to the harvested area. For many vegetables the cropping time is short so the same area can be used several times per year. For this reason the harvested are can be much bigger than the physical area (main area).

Area (cultivation/harvested/production)

For permanent crops the area refers to the production area. All non-productive areas are excluded (e.g. young non-productive plantations, abandoned areas, etc.).

Area (cultivation/harvested/production)

Measure: Sums of areas (cultivation/harvested/production) of land parcels cultivated with crops.

crops

Arable land

Land worked (ploughed or tilled) regularly, generally under a system of crop rotation. Arable land is reported in 'Main area' only.

A Cereals to produce grain (including seed)

All cereals harvested dry for grain, regardless of use.

A.2 Rye and winter cereal mixtures (Maslin)

Subgroup to A Cereals to produce grain (including seed)

A.3 Barley

Subgroup to A Cereals to produce grain (including seed)

A.4.1 Oats

Subgroup to A.4 Oats and spring cereal mixtures (mixed grain other than maslin)
