The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) ICD-10, X60-X84. The mortality rate, or death rate is a measure of the number of deaths (in general, or due to a specific cause) in a particular population, scaled to the size of that population, per unit of time. Mortality rate is often expressed in units of deaths per 1,000 or 100,000 individuals (males and females) per year. The Age-specific mortality rate is the total number of deaths per year per 1,000 or 100,000 people of a given age. Practices for coding 'suicide, accidents and self-inflicted injury' differ from one country to another and, thus, care should be taken when comparing figures.
