This is a vision indicator selected by the Nordic Council of Ministers. It relates to the target Industry, innovation and infrastructure under the area A competitive Nordic region.

Total 'in-house expenditure' on research and development as a share of the gross domestic product (GDP), in percent. 'In-house' R&D expenditure are all current and fixed expenses for R&D during a certain period of time, regardless of the source of funding.

In the table, the Nordic Region is comprised of the following countries/areas: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

Åland is included in the data for Finland.
